Trying to uncover a deeper meaning in religious texts such as “The Ten Commandments” has led many scholars on an adventure of the soul and mind; after meeting at Paris’ Sorbonne University more than 30 years ago, authors Seraya and Haldane (Angel Signs, 2002) undertook such a quest. In their new book, they use their vast collective expertise to craft a story tracing a linear thread from “The Ten Commandments” across all belief systems, science and metaphysics. The authors are the main characters in the book, along with their guide, a seraph angel named Yeliyael, and a friend of theirs. By sojourning through history and to other galaxies via space-time travel, their adventure leads them to a plateau of greater understanding of humankind. As real-life experts in fields such as philosophy, religion, metaphysics, linguistics and many historical and ancient texts, the authors have a vast reservoir of knowledge from which to create this story. The tale begins as the authors summon the angel to help traverse history, time and space to visit historical sages to guide them on the path of discovery. Meeting up with great philosophical minds such as Moses, Lao Tzu, Buddha, Benjamin Franklin and many others, they receive guidance to decipher the true nature and meaning of “The Ten Commandments,” uncovering a complex series of coded messages in the text that could change the meaning of life as we understand it. In spite of the complex, heady nature of this tome, it makes for a smooth read. Although the basis of the authors’ overarching theories is scholarly in nature, the writing is accessible. Great care is taken to explain certain motifs and topics early on in the story so the reader may follow along easily later. Using their philosophies to uncover plot points is an ingenious method of storytelling, and the tone of the story is always at an even keel. Even when several major revelations are uncovered, the writers’ reverence for the subject matter and their historical characters is always managed with great care.

Equal parts Dan Brown and Quantum Leap; an arresting, fun read, even for those with no deeper interest in religion.

YES TODAY, SOMETIME TODAY, WE SHALL TAKE OFF “on the wings of an Angel”. For the past 20 years, Albert and I have made careful and extensive preparation for that flight, and it is today that seraph Angel YELIYAEL will, once again, emerge from invisibility, in front of us, here in our Manhattan apartment, giving us the signal to embark. We are ready, well trained, as much as we think possible for our voyage through space-time multiple layers.
       Once in flight, surely we shall rely on the immense expertise of Angel YELIYAEL.
    Here, on Earth, we have gained much knowledge on trans-dimensional travel through multitudinous books reading, followed by vigorous discussions and commentaries. We have prepared our minds[1], exploring texts, directly or through translations, ancient and modern, in French, Hebrew, Latin, English, Italian, Greek, Chinese, Japanese, Hindu. We have also researched works and books focusing on linking and synthesizing different topics, all providing us with a new glimpse on facts, new hints, new clues, signaling new trails leading successfully to the kingdom of Truth.
      Today we shall commence our journey through time and space. Our goal: puncture the veils of terrestrial ignorance and discover universal Truth.
      With similar purposes, there are many examples of such voyages having occurred in the remote and recent past. In modern times the radiant joy raised in the hearts of millions by the televised first step of one man on the Moon[2] is still blazing in our memory. On front page, large print ECCOCI LUNA! HERE WE COME, MOON! heralded a major Italian newspaper, clamoring the wonder on behalf of all humanity.
    Albert and I, then students at the Sorbonne University, were spending vacation time at our friends’ house in Brindisi, and we have experienced first hand, at home and in the buzzing streets, the gigantic popular enthusiasm, irrepressible sense of intense liberation generated by the event. Man had conquered gravity, man could travel in space; humanity was freed! ECCOCI LUNA, fresh echoes of ECCE HOMO, Here Comes the New Free Human, proclaimed by Erasmus of Rotterdam[3], five centuries earlier, at the dawn of Europe’s Renaissance.

We have now reached year 2000, at the edge of 21^st century, far away from the Sixties. But we have not forgotten our dear friends in Italy, Sylvano, Melissa, Rocco, Dante, our companion witnesses of the first moon landing. The present “carnet de voyage”, we are launching like a bottle in the ocean, hoping that it will reach their shores and bring to them the expression of our love.
In a few hours, we shall start our very first travel for distant worlds, through the folds of Time and Space, whole, body and mind, our entire persons leaving the planet as enseraphed[4] space-time travelers. On Earth there will be no witnesses, no media, no audience, no cheers, no encouragements coming from other humans............
